(See resource description in )

Genrimages is a website dedicated to image and equality education. It provides multimedia resources and suggests ways to use them for all school levels.

What is it about ?

The French Centre audiovisuel Simone de Beauvoir has designed this highly effective website which offers activities to help pupils identify stereotypes.

By identifying and questioning gender stereotypes in familiar images such as adverts, films, TV series or videos pupils can look at male/female relationships in a new light. By questioning the dominant models to which they are regularly exposed, they will learn to be more respectful of others’ differences, and thus take a step back from the dominant models with which they are sometimes led to identify.

How to use it ?

Teachers can plan a collective discussion and reflection based on a well-known advert, video clip or cartoon to make pupils realise that gender stereotypes are often present and to question the underlying dominant models.
